About Christine

Since my days on my high school newspaper staff, I have been developing a love for writing and editing the news.  The joy I feel effectively communicating a thought or writing an excellent sentence led me to double major in international relations and journalism at Michigan State University.

As an undergraduate student I wrote stories on topics ranging from education to the environment that were read around the state.  During my time at the Capital News Service, I learned the importance of sticking to deadlines and how to produce quality work in a short time frame.   In addition to writing news stories, I also worked in the communications office of the college of nursing, writing content for the website, editing outreach material, and writing updates for the College’s Facebook page.

As a graduate student at Columbia University in the School of International and Public Affairs, I had the opportunity to work as an editorial assistant and online managing editor for the Journal of international Affairs.  In these roles, I helped fact check articles, solicit new content, and edit for clarity, length, and grammar.  These articles ranged in length and covered a variety of topics from the future of renewable energy to the history of the Kurds.

Today I am a freelance, writer, editor, and fact checker. I have written for a variety of publications including the Financial Diet and the Journal of Gender and Development.

In addition to my experience in communications, I have lived and worked abroad.  As a Peace Corps volunteer in Ethiopia, I worked with teachers to improve their teaching and English skills.  I also worked with girls, leading a weekly club where we discussed issues women in Ethiopia face, and I planned and led a camp for girls that focused on gender equality.  Between my two years of graduate school, I spent the summer working for a small women’s rights NGO, where I helped develop a database of participants in the program and training on social media.
